ROUND 6 REVIEW: Inverell raced out of the blocks in its top of the ladder clash against the New England Nomads and never let up.

After an inspiring Indigenous Round Welcome to Country performed by Uncle Kelvin, the Saints kicked five unanswered goals in the first term and maintained the margin through the second quarter to virtually seal the result by half time.

Hayden Chappel produced another strong performance for the home team kicking three goals to complement the five kicked by teammate Noah O’Neill. For the Nomads Fraser Menzies almost played a lone hand in front of the sticks with five goals of his own to make it 31 majors so far this season from just four games.

When Gunnedah’s men took the lead early in the final quarter against the Tamworth Kangaroos, the Bulldogs looked a strong chance of recording their first win of the season.

Alas it was not to be as the Kangaroos steadied and managed to kick the last two goals of the match to win a thriller by just six points.

It was a day for close games with the women’s match also taking until well into the final quarter before the winner was known.

The Kangaroos women opened the brighter and led the Poochettes by 11 points at the first break before the Gunnedah girls steadied in the second term.

At the final change the Poochettes led by just five points but kicked two goals to one in the final term to secure an important four points.
