ROUND 5 REVIEW: It was hard work for the Tamworth Swans but they managed to grab an Indigenous Round win that vaulted them into third position on the ladder.

Both clubs looked resplendent in their Indigenous guernseys and the Swans led at each break but only by a whisker with the margins reading just five, four and three points.

Liam Bramley was dangerous in front of goal for the Swans kicking four goals while Bulldogs stalwart Mark Barrow equalled that effort at the other end.

In the end it was the Swans kicking four goals to two in the final term that provided enough breathing space at the final siren.

Early on in the women’s game the Swans looked like possibly causing an upset as they led by nine points at the first break.

The arm wrestle continued through the next two quarters with Gunnedah slowly gaining an advantage to lead at the last break by 13 points.

The Poochettes kicked five unanswered goals in the last term to win. April Bailey was the pick of the Gunnedah forwards with four goals.

A serious injury to Emily Goldfinch of the Tamworth Kangaroos that caused a lengthy delay saw the women’s match at Tamworth No.1 Oval declared a draw.

Goldfinch went to ground in what has been described as an awkward tackle late in the third quarter against Inverell, with her condition requiring the attention of ambulance officers.

At the time of the injury, the scores read 3.1 (19) apiece. As the match had seen the equivalent ozone half played, both the Kangaroos and Saints rightly agreed that the delay in the game was such that the score at the time that the match was interrupted would be the final score and that thematic was a draw.

The men’s match wasn’t as close with the Saints opening up a nine goal lead by half time.

Hayden Chappel kicked seven goals in a best on ground performance while Aaron Baker gave the Inverell defence some headaches by booting five goals for the Kangaroos.
