FOR the second time this year the Tamworth Derby saw two nail biters played, only this time the results from the earlier meeting were reversed.

The Tamworth Kangaroos were forced to come from 13 points down at 3/4 Time of the men’s match to overcome their local rivals.

Matthew Hall continued his strong form for the Kangaroos with three goals.

In the women’s match the Kangaroos trailed by seven points at the final break but as hard as they tried to create a memorable comeback, they fell short by a solitary point with a final term that saw the Kangaroos kick an inaccurate seven behinds to a solitary point by the Swans. In the end that solitary point proved the difference between the two teams.

While the two matches played at Tamworth were close affairs, that was not the case at Armidale.

After a relatively even first term in the women’s match, the Poochettes were too polished for the New England Nomads.

Gunnedah’s girls consistently won the ball from the middle to gain territory and were able to chain together more possessions which provided the Poochettes with plenty of scoring opportunities.

Laura Ewington took advantage Gunnedah strong showing to kick five goals while Khobi Devine and Abbey Ruttley kicked four each.

The Nomads took charge f the men’s match from the outset kicking nine unanswered goals in the first term.

Gunnedah steadied somewhat in the second stanza but the Nomads continued to extend the margin throughout the contest to win by 126 points. Fraser Menzies was at his best in front of goal kicking 11 majors.
