Leitch Oval
The Moree Suns played the Tamworth Kangaroos in the women’s match up. The Kangaroo’s were dominant, notching their first win for the season. The Roo’s performance was a real team effort, with 11 of their players contributing to putting points on the board. Veteran Amanda Brown led the side strongly with a best on performance. Taliah Ryan kicked two for the Suns, with the side showing a lot of promise for when they can get a full side on the paddock. Final score: Suns 2.1.13 – 13.16.94 Roos.
Joint venture NEMS the hosted the Roos in the men’s game in a tightly fought battle. Shane Lindsay kicked well for the Roo’s notching 6 goals, while captain Carl Frazier gave a best on performance. Branden Barker was consistent for the NEMS as has been his way this season, and was well supported by Raymond Nixon and Daniel Hughes
Number 1 Oval
Number 1 Oval saw a big day of AFL with four games of footy and 3 grand final rematches. The Tamworth Roosters hosted a strong Gunnedah Bulldogs in the under 14s. Luke Jeffrey stared for the Bulldogs building a strong wall of defence in the backline, while Mason Louis slotted 4 in the forward line. Final score Roosters 2.1.13 – 12.7.79 Bulldogs
It was a nail biter in the 17s with the Roosters proving too strong in the end kicking a goal to take the lead in the dying minutes of the match. Final score Rooster 14.8.92 – 12.11.83 Celts
The reigning premiers, the Gunnedah Bulldogs continued their strong form this season defeating the Tamworth Swans in the women’s grand final rematch. The Swans took charge in the first quarter, making the Bulldogs work for their lead for the rest of the match. Alice Mitchell was best on for the Dogs, while Isabelle Bramley worked hard for the Swans. Final score Swans 4.4.28 – 9.6.60 Bulldogs
Swans men’s captain Adam Cruickshank lead from the front in his team’s win over the Bulldogs. Adam was well supported by Rhys Chillingworth who kicked 7 goals. Final score Swans 22.15.147 – 11.7.73 Bulldogs
Bellevue Oval
Inverell Saints travelled to Armidale to take on the Nomads in Women’s and Men’s. It was a close game in the ladies, with fierce competition and skill between the two sides arm wrestling the score, before the Saints ran out eventual winners. Molly Martin and Casey Morris were stand outs for the Nomads, while the saints back line combination of Phoebe Baskerville and Madeleine Ball kept the Saints in the game. Final score: Nomads 3.5.23 to 6.5.41 Saints.
The Nomad men continued their winning streak, with their skill overcoming a young Saints side. Clarrie Barker and Tom Hunt were the usual stars of the show for the Nomads, with their long experience of the game put on show. Rhyley Thom was best on for the Saints with his straight kicking up front backing up the hard work of Jordan Sue-Fong out of the middle. Final score: Nomads 16.14.110 – 9.5.59 Saints.
