Northern NSW AFLW Watch – Round 7 Preview
Across rounds seven and eight, the entire competition will recognise and celebrate the contribution of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Island women and girls to Australian Football and the broader community.
With only 4 games left of the home and away season the teams are looking to push their way into finals contention.
The Sydney Swans are back on home soil this week for a Saturday afternoon clash with Hawthorn. The Swans are currently sitting in 12th place, just out of the top-eight due to percentage. The match will be held at Henson Park, Sydney on Gadigal country on Saturday first bounce at 3:05pm AEDT. Get down to the game or view it on 7mate and get around Alice Mitchell (Gunnedah Bulldogs).
The GWS Giants are placed in 16th, looking to continue their momentum and claim successive wins when they face the Saints, in a must win match at RSEA Park, Melbourne on Kulin country first bounce at 1:05pm AEDT. This can be viewed on 7mate or at the ground. Get around the former Port Macquarie Magpie in Cambridge McCormick.
The winless Western Bulldogs will enter the tough round 7 clash as underdogs against the undefeated Crows on Friday night at Norwood Oval, Adelaide on Kaurna country, with first bounce 7:15pm AEDT. The doggies will need all the support they can get, tune in on 7mate and support Lower Clarence’s Brianna McFarlane.
The AFLW Indigenous Round commences this weekend and will highlight ‘Moments forged by First Nations’- a theme that recognizes the unforgettable moments and contributions of the past and present First Nations peoples to our game.
The Sydney Swans match this week will see the team run out in the club’s first Indigenous Round guernsey designed specifically for the AFLW team. Adding further significance to the occasion, the guernsey has been designed by current Swans player and proud Ningy Ningy woman Aliesha Newman.
The design is a nod to the Swans’ rich history, connection between the AFLW team and an acknowledgement to the people who have helped every individual player get to where they are today.
The GIANTS will wear their traditional strip on Saturday against the Saints due to a jumper clash between the GIANTS’ ‘Ngurra’ jumper and St Kilda’s Indigenous jumper.
As part of the celebrations, the Bulldogs will wear guernseys designed by proud Kerrup-Mara Gunditjimara and Yorta Yorta man Jason Walker for the next fortnight. The design represents Mirring (country) on Gunditjmara, where the Bulldogs are affiliated with in south-west Victoria, and is inspired by the Lake Condah Possum Skin Cloak.
