Jacob Vallender to be remembered on memorial day
The upcoming round of footy will be an emotional one in Tamworth as the community remembers a fine young man.
Jacob Vallender sadly passed away late last year and on Saturday the Tamworth Roosters, Tamworth Kangaroos and Tamworth Swans will play in his honour.
The day will be a celebration of Jacob’s kind nature and willingness to help others.
It is how his father Greg, who is a Roosters coach, remembers his son.
“There wasn’t a nasty piece in him and he was so unselfish,” Greg said back in December.
“On the footy field, he’d go for a run and have a chance to have a shot on goal but would look to pass to other players.”

He loved his footy – cricket and fishing, too – but he didn’t just play.
Jacob was there to help set up the ground and then pack up as well.
And if he wasn’t running water for the senior teams, he’d be running a boundary line instead.
Jacob was just a good kid through and through.
Jacob’s two brothers and sister will all play on the day with the first game to kick-off at 9.45am.
That game will see the Roosters take on the Gunnedah Bulldogs in the under 14s.
The JVM presentation will follow the opening game before the under 17s – Roosters versus Moree – play at 11.15am.
The Tamworth Swans will take on the Inverell Saints in the women’s competition at 1.05pm before the Swans and the Kangaroos play in the men’s competition at 2.35pm.

The games are set to be played at No. 1 Oval but may be moved to Riverside 5 due to wet weather.
