Club profile: Gunnedah a growing force

THE preview series of men’s and women’s teams ahead of the 2023 season start continues today with the club that narrowly missed out on winning the women’s premiership last year.

GUNNEDAH

2022 Results – Mens: 5th; Womens: Runner-up.

SUMMER TRANSFERS

Mens – In: Corey Robinson (Narrabri), Ciaran McCann (Narrabri), Daniel Brown (Moree), Alister McClenaghan (Narrabri), Callum Craigie (Narrabri), Lindsay Vandriest (Moree), Chris Lehman (Moree). Out: Ryan King (Canning South Perth, WA).

Womens – In: Jess Bennett (Maitland). Out: Rani Grant (Glenelg, SA), Serena Waters (Glenelg, SA), Louise Rose (Pacific Pines, Qld).

Gunnedah is a team looking to improve in 2023.

The women’s team doesn’t need to improve all that much to remain a force in the AFL North West.

The Poochettes led for the majority of the 2022 grand final but weren’t able to hold on in the dying moments.

No doubt the women’s team will once again be a contender this year. The men’s team should also improve with a number of Moree and Narrabri players making the commitment to play for the Bulldogs this year.

With such an influx, there’s a good chance both Gunnedah teams will be playing in the finals this year while both Moree and Narrabri take stock over the next few months and look to rebuild ahead of 2024.
