YOUNG players from the North West Blue Heelers program enjoyed a large dose of representative football at the Northern NSW Championships.

The three day event held in Coffs Harbour saw 27 teams from North Coast, Hunter Metro, Hunter Country, Central Coast and Illawarra competing across six age groups.

A total of 25 North West players were in action slotting into the North Coast Under 15 and Under 17 teams, Central Coast Under 17 and Youth Girls 17 and the Illawarra Youth Girls 15s.

For all of the players being able to play a higher standard of football was an enjoyable learning experience but the greatest effect the three days of footy in Coffs Harbour had on the group was it stoked the fire for North West to field representative teams in their own right at next year’s championships.

The Blue Heelers girls more than held their own while playing on the C.ex Coffs International Stadium.

One thing some of the the girls who play senior football realised is that while they enjoy playing each weekend against older women with their clubs, playing in these championships showed them how much they enjoyed playing alongside and against girls their own age.

The girls are now more committed than ever ti get a Youth Girls competition up and running in the North West in 2023.
