Lauren Appleby has been selected to be a part of the Top End Program with the QBE Sydney Swans Academy.

The 16 year-old was a member of the Academy’s Under 16 squad in 2023 and played two matches for the Academy in April against the GWS Giants Academy and Gold Coast Suns Academy.

Lauren lives in Moree but her dedication to her football has seen her travel long distances to play for the Tamworth Kangaroos this year as well as the many miles travelling to and from Sydney for Swans Academy sessions.

Despite her tender years, Lauren has finished third in the AFL North West Best & Fairest count over the past two years as wells being selected in the AFL North West’s Team of the Year in 2022 and 2023 and winning the Rising Star Award twice as well.

Brad Greenshields, Community Football Manager, said that Lauren’s selection is a great reward for the outstanding dedication she has shown.

“Lauren has made regular six-hour round trips to Tamworth and back as well as travelling long hours to Sydney,” Greenshields said.

“That commitment shows how driven Lauren is to succeed. Combine that with her obvious talent which she shows each time she plays against older players in the AFL North West and it’s created this fantastic opportunity for Lauren to be on this pathway to a bright future in the game.”
