All get a slice of Double Header points

ROUND 10 REVIEW: All four clubs who played at Tamworth No.1 Oval on Saturday walked away with something.

The big day of footy started with the Tamworth Swans and Inverell playing out a thriller in the women’s match.

In a contest that may be a preview of a final come the end of the season, the Tamworth Swans overcame a three goal half time deficit to prevail in a nail biter by just two points.

Anishah Burnes kicked two goals for the SWans while Clare McCosker did the same for the Saints.

The men’s match had an even start before the Saints hit their stride after quarter time.

Hayden Chappel was a strong performer across half back for Inverell while Noah O’Neill (five goals) and Rhyley Thom (three) provided classy finishing up front.

With three goals Lachlan McIntosh was the best performer for the Swans.

An AFL North West rule has seen both the Tamworth Kangaroos and New England Nomads awarded two points for the men’s match played under lights.

The Nomads men had less than the minimum number of players required and as such two points were automatically awarded to the Kangaroos.

The ‘Roos then loaned players to the Nomads to ensure a match could go ahead and under the rules, the result of that match decides the destination of the other two match points.

Despite being low on numbers, the Nomads created plenty of slick ball movement early to gain the early ascendancy.

Playing without anybody on the bench looked like it was a disadvantage too hard to overcome during the second and third third quarters with the Kangaroos coming back to lead by nine points at the final break.

The Nomads somehow found an extra gear in the last term to kick four goals to one and record an unusual 12 point win.

The Nomads women were also short but the visitors found the Kangaroos girls far too strong.

Shannon Campbell booted five goals for the victors.
