Two further chances to join the Blue Heelers

It’s not too late to join the North West Blue Heelers development program, with the first two training sessions being offered as chances for players to be considered for selection.

The Blue Heelers program is not only focused on individual development, it also encompasses the North West representative program where teams will play in carnivals against the programs of other Leagues. The program is for boys and girls aged 11 to 17 (i.e. born 2005 to 2011), with rep teams operating at Under 13 (mixed), Under 15 (male), Under 17 (male), and Youth Girls (14 to 17 year olds).

Training sessions are held twice per month in multiple locations and players wishing to be considered for inclusion can attend one of these sessions as a selection trial. Training sessions will be held on:

  • Wednesday 27 April from 6:30pm to 8:00pm in Tamworth & Armidale
  • Wednesday 11 May from 6:30pm to 8:00pm in Tamworth & Inverell

Note: there is a 30 minute overlap between training for the Tamworth Roosters and the Blue Heelers (6:30pm to 7:00pm). Roosters players can simply join in with the Blue Heelers as soon as club training is complete and will only miss out on the warm-up.

Paul Taylor, Community Football Manager, said that these extra opportunities should ensure that no-one misses out. “We understand that some players were still immersed in their summer sports when we held the trials and hadn’t yet thought about playing club footy, let alone being part of this new program. We don’t want those players to feel like they’ve missed out, so are offering these extra chances for them to show their wares and put their name forward for inclusion in the program.”

Representative teams need to be selected directly after the Blue Heelers session on 11 May so you must attend one of these two sessions if you want to be considered.

If you’re interested in being part of the program please email Paul Taylor at paul.taylor@afl.com.au ASAP to advise which session you’d like to attend.

Round up your mates, get them to keen to be part of the program too, notify Paul Taylor which session they want to attend, and we’ll look forward to seeing you at one of the above sessions!
