COVID-19 update: Final Rounds

Finals Series

Due to a number of players and umpires being impacted by the Armidale stay at home orders announced last Saturday the decision was made to postpone all AFL NW senior semi-finals.

It was a decision that wasn’t taken lightly and was done in the best interest of all teams in the competition.

AFL North West’s competition management committee is however hopeful that the finals will go ahead.

Best case and the most desirable option will be to run the three weeks of finals as planned.

A number of factors will be taken into consideration for this to occur, including public health orders, all teams being out of lockdown, ability of teams to train and prepare as well as ground and player availability.

AFL NW will continue to take advice from NSW Health as well as AFL NSW/ACT on the best and safest way to proceed.

“At the end of the day we have a duty of care to our players and the communities in which we play” says competition co-ordinator Sarah Dadd, and this will be the focus moving forward in any decisions made.

Gillies Medal Presentation Night

The decision has also been made to move the online AFL NW presentation night from Monday the 16th to Wednesday the 18th evening.

This is in the hope that our Armidale and Tamworth regions will both be out of stay at home orders and clubs could gather to watch the event together.
