Alan Martin (l) with former NIAS athletes Lachie Martin, Marli Gobbert, Rhys Smith, and Adam Marshall MP.

Northern Inland Academy of Sport (NIAS) Head Coach, Alan Martin, has been named the 2019 AFL NSW/ACT Junior Coach of the Year.

The award, which recognises a coach who contributes over and above to their community, whilst displaying the role model attributes a coach should have, was selected from thousands of coaches who work their craft across NSW and ACT.

Other than the high honour of being named the 2019 AFL NSW/ACT Junior Coach of the Year, Alan will receive the following:

  • Invitation to the Toyota Good for Footy AFL National Volunteer Awards held in Melbourne during May 2020 for the NSW/ACT Volunteer Award winners of each category + guest
  • Return flights for the NSW/ACT Volunteer Award winners of each category + guest
  • Accommodation in Melbourne for 2 nights
  • Nomination for the National Volunteer Category Award Winner

Alan received a call this week from current AFL NSWACT Coach Development Manager and former Sydney Swan, Tim Schmidt, and was obviously elated to hear of this prestigious award.

Alan has been instrumental in the growth of our junior competitions, through his roles for the Inverell Saints, the League Junior Committee, the AFL North West Junior Representative Program, NIAS and the Swans Academy. Congratulations Alan. AFL North West is very proud of you!
